Since 1939

Parreirinha de Alfama began as a coal shop and eating house, but through the years, owned and operated by the legendary Fado singer Argentina Santos from the 1950s on, it became a point of reference for great Fado and great food.



The voices of Amália, Alfredo Marceneiro, Berta Cardoso, Lucília do Carmo, Mariana Silva, Celeste Rodrigues, and so many others, echoed between its four walls. Parreirinha de Alfama preserves the tradition of Fado in the familial and informal environment that Fado seeks.


In 2014 the great responsibility of preserving Parreirinha de Alfama was passed on to musicians Paulo Valentim and Bruno Costa, and they have run and directed it ever since.

Our menu

Parreirinha de Alfama grew as a great restaurant and Fado house due to the work of its founder, Argentina Santos.


She commanded every element of the kitchen, from purchasing to preparing the food.


Currently, Chef Jaqueline Silva and her assistant, Aicha Elhayany, act as the gatekeepers of a tradition of intense flavors and food with soul.

Taste of Parreirinha de Alfama

Taking center stage in this book’s first section are herbs and spices, pepper and salt, in pinches and proportions both appropriate and creative. The book’s second section covers the pillars of Portuguese cuisine (Mediterranean and world heritage), including ingredients such as olive oil, garlic, and tomato, to which the abovementioned spices are added, giving a unique personality to each dish.


The third section of the book contains the most popular, best loved, simplest, and most complex Parreirinha de Alfama recipes.
